Short breaks

Short breaks are breaks from normal routine, we also call this 'respite'. They can be for both a person with a disability, long term illness or their carer. Short breaks should be good for both parties and should support their relationship. They should offer opportunities and experiences tailored to meet the individuals needs in a variety of settings. Short breaks can be either time apart or time together with extra support. Short breaks can vary in duration from several hours to several weeks dependent upon individual need. They can be provided on a planned basis, as a holiday, or where appropriate, in emergencies.
